Fun Websites

  • Aegi's Cafe

This is one of the recommended sites that I keep seeing on the neocities front page, so you may have seen it already. But it's popular for good reason! It's a virtual cafe with adorable pixel art that kind of does a little role playing element. It's still under construction but you can really see the bones of what the creator is going for.

  • Cloverbell

This site is so cute! It has a very soft and warm pallet with a bunch of adorable flourishes and a little music player (music does not play automatically, which I'm neutral on, but I know a lot of people prefer to toggle themselves).

  • Hillhouse

This ol thing is full of whimsy. I love the design, I've read a few of the designer's journal entries and I love their musingsā€¦ Such a nice little site.

Video Essays

  • Subjectivity in Art

I love all of Cj's videos, but this is one of my favorites. They put to words so many feelings about art that I've had over the years and it makes me feel seen and inspired. I'm a Patreon supporter of theirs too, which I highly recommend if you like their vid-essays because there a lot more content there.

  • Twilight

This isn't even my favorite Contrapoints video but it is her most recent and I thought it was fascinating. It's not realllly about the Twilight books (the books are just an example to get the conversation going), it's about heterosexual attraction and power imbalances with desire. ALSO: subscribe to her patronfor more video essays if you run out of stuff on her channel. I really like her video on liminal spaces, which is a Patreon exclusive.

  • Ways of Seeing

I feel like this may be a super basic recommendation, but I will still recommend to anyone who hasn't seen it. It breaks down how we view and interpret art. I recommend watching all 3 parts because my guy John Berger was absolutely cooking.
